Core Modules

Core themes across the course are maths skills, health and safety, data analysis, environmental awareness, sustainability and management.

In year 1, you will build fundamental knowledge in subjects like CAD (Computer-Aided Design), Engineering Science, Materials and Workshop Practice, and Programming for Mechanical Engineers.

Next,  you advance to applied areas such as Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Mechanical Engineering Design, and an integrated Engineering Design Project.

The final year focuses on advanced application and professional skills, including Applied Mechanics, Automation and Control, Engineering Management, and the critical Thermofluids module. Core themes throughout include mathematics, data analysis, and sustainable engineering practice.

Many students are eligible for the Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI) Grant, which can cover student contribution fees and provide a maintenance payment. Targeted funds like the 1916 Bursary Fund and the KickStart Scholarship are available to increase participation from underrepresented groups in higher education.
